SnS Rattery

ABOUT US

SnS Rattery was established in April of 2008 and is owned and ran by Samantha and Steven. We currently have 32 total permanent residents, but the number of our rescues and adoptable babies vary quite frequently. We have been involved with rats for more than 7 years prior to starting our rattery and have loved every rat who has graced our lives with their love as another member of our family. Besides school and weekly outings with our dogs and horses, we are home bodies and spend most of our time at home with our family of fur kids.

We both have a strong passion for animals in general, but have a special place in our hearts for rats and strive to promote the species. We feel we have a commitment to educate the public on how great well bred rats really are and erase the typical stereotypes on how a majority of our society sees them. We are also both fascinated with genetics involved with breeding rats and are determined to not be breeders who simply use the already known to reproduce what already exist. Instead, we want to unveil the codes on the very best ways to bring out the very best in every rat. We always breed for the whole rat; health, temperament, type, variety, and longevity. Though, we have made an effort to start with or establish lines with outstanding health and temperament, so we have the ability to devote most of our energies to improving type, variety, and longevity. With our outlook towards breeding, we feel we have much to offer to the fancy.

Although an assortment of varieties often turn up in our litters, we only specialize in a select few. Our current lines include Black Eyed Seal Point Siamese, Fawn, Silver Mink, and Russian Blue; which we are working towards converting each to its own color bred line. At this time we have not limited ourselves to any particular ear type, coat type or size, but do have goals regarding these traits for each line in particular. We do have future plans which we are currently working on to create a sub line of each color bred line into its own dwarf color bred line. To learn more about our lines and to see the progress of each, please visit Our Lines section.

We are members of RMHF and plan to continue our participation in showing our rats with the club as well as possibly expanding to showing down in Southern California once time allows. Our breeding program has been planned accordingly to breed towards the AFRMA standards, but we do have future plans to take it in the direction of the RMHF standards once the club has become more established.
